SHELLSBURG - Audrey A. Keel, 76, died Saturday, July 21, 2007 at her home in Shellsburg following a short illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Audrey was born July 19, 1931 at Atkins to Melvin and Stella (Johnson) Husted. She graduated from Shellsburg High School with the class of 1949. On July 24, 1955 she was united in marriage to Wilbert "Bill" Keel in Shellsburg. Audrey worked as a secretary at Culver Motors in Cedar Rapids prior to her marriage. She was a member of the Shellsburg Presbyterian Church and was a den mother for the Shellsburg Cub Scouts. Audrey was an accomplished artist and gardener and was able to play music by ear. Her greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was also very fond of the cats she raised through the years. She is survived by two sons, Jerry Keel of Shellsburg, John (Mary) Keel of Hiawatha, her daughter Kelly (Curtis) Schmidt of North Liberty, four grandsons, Todd (Karla) Martin of Chicago, Eric (Kristina) Martin of Boston, MA, Matthew and Ryan Keel, both of Hiawatha, one great granddaughter Sonya Martin, her sister Doris (Milford) Schulze of Van Horne, her brother Wayne (Judy) Husted of Shellsburg and her sister-in-law Jean Husted of Vinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband "Bill" in 1979 and two brothers, Richard and Merrill Husted.
