URBANA: Alice Kramer, age 95, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at her residence following a sudden illness.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Urbana with Father David Ambrosy as Celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery near Urbana. Public Visitation will also be held at the church in Urbana from 4:30 to 7 PM, Monday, where a Vigil Service will begin at 7 PM. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements. Alice was born August 6, 1912 near Urbana to Carl and Sylvia (Brody) Willford and graduated from the Urbana High School in 1931. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College. For many years she and her six sisters served as Switchboard Operators in Urbana where her father managed the telephone office. On December 15, 1934 she married Lawrence Kramer at St. Mary's Spencers Grove Catholic Church near Urbana. He preceded her in death in 1977. Alice was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Urbana and the Altar & Rosary Society of her parish. She was well known for her homemade noodles. Alice loved embroidery, Hawkeye sports and adored her family. Her August birthday "bashes" in her front yard were very special for everyone.. She is survived by her sons, Duane, Keith (Judy) and Michael (Terrie) all of Urbana, and Brian (Susan) of Center Point; her daughter, Kathy (Gary) Durow of Center Point; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Yvonne Kramer; her great-grandson, Ryan and six sisters, Helen Martinec, Bernice Garwood, Dixie Kelty, Martha Luken, Virginia Willford, and Abbie Bennett.
