SUMNER:  Andrew "Andy" Nicklaus, age 78, formerly of Van Horne died September 27, 2006 at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner following an extended illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, October 2, 2006 at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne with Rev. David Lindenberg officiating.  Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery in Newhall with Graveside Military Rites conducted by Thomas J. Bevins American Legion Post # 148 of Van Horne.  Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday.  A memorial fund has been established.
     Andy was born February 15, 1928 in Fremont Township of Bremer County to Andrew and Melinda (Sauerbrei) Nicklaus, Sr..   During the Korean Conflict, he served his nation in the US Army.  On March 2, 1952 he married Ida "Bobbi" Sisk in Atlanta, GA.   She preceded him in death on August 21, 1993.
     Andy served as manager of FS in Van Horne prior to his retirement.  He was an avid golfer, bowler and baseball fan.  Andy was Past President of the Iowa Lutheran Bowling Association; President of the Iowa Amateur Baseball Association; served on the Board of Directors of the Vinton Lutheran Home; was a former member of the Van Horne City Council; served as President and Elder of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne; served on the Board of Directors of Tara Hills Country Club; was a member of the Advisory Board of Kirkwood Community College; and was Manager of the Sumner Cubs Baseball Team.
     He is survived by his daughters, Carma (Neal) Reinhart of Hinton, Robin (Joseph) Hackel of Brookfield, IL; his companion, Sylvia Groom of McAllen, TX; his grandchildren, Angela Rachel, and Nicklaus Reinhart, Andrew, Lucas and FrancescaHackel; his great-grandchildren, Caine White and Evelyn Rachel; his brother, Leon Nicklaus; his sisters, Darlene Boedecker, Dorothy Wehling, Karla Nicklaus, Janice Schweer, and Linda Niedert and many beloved nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.
     In addition to this wife and parents, his sister, Velma Schnor, and his brother, Carlyle Nicklaus preceded him in death.
