VINTON:  Alfred "Al" E. Sommerfeld, 88, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton following an extended illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 13, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with Rev. Clarke E. Frederick officiating.  Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave, Vinton from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday.  A Memorial Fund has been established.
      Al was born August 6, 1920 at Chicago, IL to Edward and Olga (Krueger) Sommerfeld and he graduated from Hirsch High School in Chicago in 1939.
       He married Mildred Buelow on January 26, 1946 at Chicago.  In 1951 the couple moved to Vinton where Al purchased the Vinton Dairy, which he owned until his retirement in 1987.  Mildred preceded him in death on February 10, 1992.  He married Darlene Kramer Clark in July of 2000.
        Al was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had served as an Elder.  He had also been a member of Kiwanis Club and the former Chamber of Commerce.
        He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Vinton.
        In addition to his parents and his first wife, Mildred, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alden Sommerfeld.
