VINTON: Allan D. Horak, 57, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton, with Rev. Collette Gould officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 PM on Friday.
Allan was born February 19, 1952 at Independence to Harry T. and Thelma Lucille (Davis) Horak and graduated from Washington High School in Vinton in 1970. He then attended Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids.
A life long farmer in the Brandon/Vinton area, Allan was a member of the Brandon United Methodist Church, the Benton County Pork Producers, the Benton County Cattleman's Association, the Benton County Extention Council, and the Board of Eden Mutual Insurance Company. He had always been an active volunteer in the Brandon Community and he loved Dirt Car Racing.
On April 7, 1973 he was united in marriage to LuAnn Byam. He is survived by his wife, LuAnn; his son, Matt Horak of Vinton; his daughter, Lisa Horak of Burlington; his grandson, Ethan Horak; his mother, Thelma Horak of Vinton; his sisters and brothers, Shirley (Ross) Wiley of Walker, Lynn (Charlene) Horak of West Des Moines, Lois (Michael) Jensen of Troy, NY, and Mark (Suzzi) Horak of Dallas TX; and many nieces and nephews.
Allan was preceded in death by his father, Harry Horak; and his son Michael Horak.
