BELLE PLAINE: Alvin "Bud" Schild, 88, died Friday, October 8, 2010 at North Brook Manor Care in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. "Bud's" family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Monday. October 11, 2010 at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone. Public Graveside Services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday October 12, 2010 at the Keystone Cemetery with Graveside Military Rites Conducted by Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107 of Keystone. The family request those attending come in casual attire. Alvin was born May 1, 1922 in Belle Plaine to Lewis and Lena (Hellerman) Schild and was fondly known as "Bud". A man who loved agriculture, Bud farmed near Belle Plaine until 1966 and then was employed at Farmstead until retiring in 1983. On November 22, 1991 he married Libbie Preston at Cedar Rapids. In addition to farming, Bud loved fishing, bowling and playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Libbie; his children, Marilyn (Kent) Klein, Maxine (Dean) Main, and Marlin (Shawn) Schild; his step-children. Mike (Malinda) Preston and David Preston; and several grand and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Schild; and relatives, Adeline McIlrath, Elmer Schild, Leona Scheel, Gary Preston, and Pattie Preston.
