URBANA:  Avis Marie Koutny, 98, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Rock Ridge Care Center in Shellsburg following an extended illness. 
        Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Urbana Christian Church with Rev. Tom Felts officiating.  Interment will be held at the Urbana Cemetery.  Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday.  A Memorial Fund has been established for the Urbana Christian Women's Fellowship.
        Avis Marie was born November 17, 1910 near Cheney, Iowa to Clifford F. and Lucinda (Williams) Roll.  She rode the WCF & N Railroad to attend high school and graduated from the Urbana High School in 1929.  On November 26, 1931 she was united in marriage to Frank J. Koutny at Cedar Rapids.and the couple farmed in the Urbana area.  He preceded her in death on November 20, 1975.
        She was a member of the Urbana Christian Church and CWF of her congregation; the Urbana American Legion Auxiliary; and the Urbana Cemetery Association.  She enjoyed gardening. was a avid reader of daily newspapers, and loved attending the Urbana Senior Citizens Monthly Dining.  Known to many as "Grandma Noodles" she was very proud of her granddaughters' academic accomplishments and their current involvement in the field of education.
         Survivors include her son, Lyle Koutny of Urbana; her daughter-in-law, Mary Koutny of Independence; her granddaughters, Penny (Brian) Coller of Center Point and Kelly (C.J.) Fahy of Chicago; her great grandchildren, Alexa and Matthew Coller and Molly Fahy, and a great-grandson to be born in July; her sister-in-law, Eileen Roll of Urbana; and many nieces and nehews.
           In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Koutny on January 4, 1979 and her brother, Arden Roll.
