VINTON:   Bess Kueny Folk, 92, of Iowa City and formerly of Vinton, died Friday, December 26, 2008 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City of Cancer.
     Memorial Services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Presbyterian Church in Vinton with Rev. Ronald Sumption officiating.  Private Committal Services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.  A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Monday at Phillips Family Center in Vinton.  A Memorial Fund has been established for the Vinton Public Library and Hospice of Mercy.
     Bess was born May 19, 1916 at Vinton to Carlos and Mildred (Troxel) Beresford.  She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Vinton and then attended the University of Iowa.  On August 8, 1938 she married Francis A. Kueny at Vinton.  Bess and Francis farmed in Eden Township where they raised their eight children.  They retired from farming in 1989 and moved to Vinton .  He preceded her in death on January 15, 1997.
     Bess was employed by Dr. Fry and the clinic in Vinton and later served as Administrative Assistant to Dr. Yang Ahn in Cedar Rapids before her retirement.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed enrollment in several writing classes at the University  Of Iowa, and membership in reading groups in Vinton.  For many years she was a member of the Vinton Public Library Board of Directors, PEO Chapter HG, the Vinton Women's Club, and Early Arts Club in Vinton.  Bess also loved music and ballroom dancing.
     After moving to Iowa City she married Dr. Edgar G. Folk, Jr. in April of 1998, who survives her along with her children, Jon (Ginger) Kueny of Port Richie, FL, Carolyn (Charles) Kleiner of Vinton, Tom (Sherry) Kueny of Vinton, Rosemary Kueny of Iowa City, Chris (Amy) Kueny of Santa Fe, NM, and Kurt Kueny of Vinton,; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her step-daughter, Victoria and husband Stephen of New York City.
      In addition to her parents and first husband, Francis, she was preceded in death by her sons, Paul E. and Richard D. Kueny; her sister, Marjorie Kunz; and her brother, Glenn Beresford.
