KEYSTONE: Betty Roese, 79, died Friday, November 28, 2008 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. James Eggert officiating. Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Monday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Keystone. A Memorial Fund has been established.
Betty was born September 1, 1929 to Tenus and Mayme (Ward) Olson on the family farm near LeGrand. She graduated from LeGrand High School in 1946 and in 1948 she received her teacher's degree from Iowa State Teachers College.
Betty taught third and fourth grade students from 1948-1959 in the Keystone Consolidated School District, and met her future husband, Robert Roese, who also was a teacher at that time. On August 12, 1951 she and Robert were united in marriage at Marshalltown. Betty was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone where she had enjoyed membership in the Home Mission Society and the Church Choir. Betty was also a member of the Belle Plaine and Tara Hills Country Clubs.
She was known as a wonderful cook but she will be remembered most of all for her delicious Apple and Pecan Pies. Betty received great pleasure from being an avid reader, but the absolute greatest joy and love of her life were her grandchildren, Ben and Brittany.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Roese of Keystone; her daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Mike Seeck of Keystone; her grandchildren, Ben (Jackie) Seeck of Keystone and Brittany Seeck of Cedar Rapids; her great-grandchildren, Hunter, Brody, and Karsyn Semelroth, and Sophia Seeck; her sisters, Dorothy Matetich of Dallas, TX, and Mary (George) Morris of Okoboji; her brother-in-law, Gordon (Shirley) Roese of Marcus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, James Matetich; her brother, Glenn Olson; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Olson.
