VAN HORNE:  Calvin Henry Rinderknecht, age 83, died Monday, December 4, 2006 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone following an extended illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, December 7, 2006 at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne with Rev. David Lindenberg officiating.  Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery near Newhall.  Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Keystone from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday.  A Memorial Fund has been established.    
     Calvin was born September 24, 1923 in Van Horne to Henry C. and Lillian (Schoelerman) Rinderknecht and graduated from the Keystone High School in 1941.  During World War II he served his nation in the US Navy in the Philippines.
     On February 11, 1945 he married Lolita Kaestner at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne.  She preceded him in death on December 5, 2001.
     Calvin was an active member of his community having served for two terms on the Van Horne City Council.  He was a member of the Van Horne Community Club and was honored with the Governor's Leadership Award in 1977.  From 1977 to 1980 he served as President of the Van Horne Lions Club and helped to organize the Newhall Lions Club.
     Calvin farmed in the Van Horne area until retiring in 1974 and moving to town.  During his farming career he served as the Food Chairman for the Farm Progress Show and was named "Outstanding Poultry Man" in 1989.
     He is survived by his sons, Rodney (Nancy) of Crookston, MN, Sidney of Lake Ozark, MO, and Steve (Charlene) of Hemet, CA; his daughters, Diane (Robert) Schnorenberg of Davenport, and Jeanie (Bill) Albers of Keystone; eighteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, E. P. Willey of Pella; and his sisters-in-law, Mae Kaestner of Newhall, and Janet Gustafson of Williamsburg.
     In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard; his sister, Donna Willey; and his brothers-in-law, Dallas and Richard Kaestner.
