VINTON:  Carrie Stephens, age 91, died Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg following an extended illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton with the Rev. Ronald Sumption and Rev. Noelle Andrew officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.  Friends may call at the funeral home from Noon until service time on Tuesday.  A memorial Fund has been established.
     Carrie David Shawhan Stephens was born May 29, 1916 in Wetumka, OK, a daughter of L. D. and Exa (Ogltree) Shawhan.  When she was four years old the family moved to Kansas City, MO where she attended James School and Northeast High School.
     In 1936 she married Etna Stephens in her parent's home in Kansas City.  They moved to Vinton where they made their home until the war years when she lived in Overland Park, KS with her sisters while her husband served his nation in the US Army.
     After the war she and her husband returned to Vinton where she lived prior to moving to Rock Ridge.
     Carrie was a member of the Presbyterian Church serving as Sunday School teacher for many years, Elder and Deacon.  She was a member of TTT DM.
     She is survived by her son, Ralph Stephens and family of Walford and her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Glenn Geater and family of Vinton.
     Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and an infant son and daughter.
