VINTON - Carl R. Greaser, 82 of Vinton died, Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vinton following an extended illness.  Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, September 25, 2009 at the Presbyterian Church in Vinton with Rev. Ron Sumption officiating.  Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton with Graveside Military Rites conducted by the Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57.  Friends may call from 4 - 7 PM Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 East Sixth Street) in Vinton.  A Memorial Fund has been established.

     Carl was born April 13, 1927 on the family farm in Jackson Township of Benton County, the son of Alfred and Grace (Martin) Greaser.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1944 and later served his country during World War II in the United States Navy.  He was a member of the Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 of Vinton.

     On June 20, 1948, Carl was united in marriage to Margaret Jean Lindeman at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton.  The couple lived and raised their family on the farm where Carl was born.

     Carl devoted time and effort in the organization and formation of the Vinton Co-Op starting in 1975.  Carl was on the steering committee and served as the first board president.  Carl was a past member of the 4-H Extension Council and was a member of the Benton County Farm Bureau.  He was a member of the Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder for many years.  Carl’s love of farming continued for 62 years.  He enjoyed woodworking, tending his flowers and spending time with his family.

     Carl is survived by his wife, Margaret of Vinton; his children, Marilyn Yedlik and husband, Charles of Vinton, Janice Mino and husband, Jim of Austin, MN, and Jim Greaser and wife, Linda of Vinton; his grandchildren, Sara Arnold and husband, David of Vinton, Carrie Yedlik and husband, Mark of Vinton, and Michelle Markov and husband, Chris, and Rebecca Mino, all of Mound, MN, Steven Mino of Winona, MN, 2nd Lt. Dan Greaser of Ft. Sill, OK, and Christy Greaser of Cedar Rapids; four great grandchildren; his brothers, Ray, Manchester and Harold, all of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

     He was a loving husband, father, and adoring grandfather who will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.

      He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Charlotte Caslavka, and Helen Walthart.
