Growing up, he worked hard on the farm and was an outstanding student, being awarded a letter for Academic Achievement. He was an esteemed businessman in Vinton, Iowa, owning the Coast-to-Coast Store for over 25 years. He was a member of the Christian Business Men's Club and served on the Vinton City Council and on the State Board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 71 years, Irene D. Anderson of Shellsburg and their three children; Judy (Leigh) Bennett and Jan (Ron) Simons, all of the Twin Cities, MN, and Jim (Patty) Anderson of Cedar Rapids. He was dearly loved by his children, his seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Most important to him was his family, his friends, and his faith. He was involved in the First Baptist Church of Vinton over 60 years serving in many capacities, including being ordained as a lay minister. He leaves a legacy of integrity, a joyful spirit and a loving heart. We will miss and forever love him until we meet again. Don was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and one brother. His family wishes to thank the caring staff at Rock Ridge Care Center and of Amenity Hospice for their support and ongoing kindnesses during this time.
