KEYSTONE: Darlene M. Harty, age 75, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 20, 2006 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Belle Plaine with Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. today at the Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone, where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friends may also call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the church. Darlene was born on January 17, 1931 in Belle Plaine, the daughter of James and Blanche (Chamra) Vokoun. She graduated from the Belle Plaine High School with the class of 1948. On June 19, 1961, she was united in marriage to Robert Harty at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Darlene worked as a writer and photographer at the Belle Plaine Union from 1948 until 1961 and farmed with Robert North of Keystone. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Keystone Literary Club. Darlene was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She is survived by her husband Robert; her daughter Jean Pfeiffer and husband Randall of Muscatine; her son Tom Harty of Keystone; her granddaughter Sarah Pfeiffer and two nephews, Joel Vileta of Luzerne and James Vileta of Duluth, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Helen Vileta. A memorial fund has been established.
