FAIRFAX: Doris Mae Lensch, 87, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center and formerly of Fairfax, was called to her heavenly home on January 6, 2008 following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, January 11, 2008 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will also be held at the church in Atkins from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements. Doris is survived by her sons, David (Inez) of Cedar Rapids, and Dennis (Jo) of Urbandale; and her daughter-in-law, Chris Maakestad (Wendell) of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by her brother, William (Carol) Schlotterback of White Bear Lake, MN. Doris enjoyed following the activities of her seven grandchildren and her ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Charles; her son, Wayne; her parents, W. F. and Anna (Wallem) Schlotterback, and two brothers, Richard and Robert. She and Charles were married on January 22, 1941 and farmed near Atkins their entire married life. They enjoyed vacationing in northern Minnesota for much of their life, supplementing it with trips to east and west coasts and to Europe in later years. Doris enjoyed the time spent in caring for her flower and vegetable gardens, and could usually be found "at home" in her kitchen. Memorials may be directed to the family.
