VINTON: D. Darlene Dake Krug, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Vinton with Rev. Connie Wacht officiating. Interment will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St., in Vinton from 4 to 7 PM on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Camp Courageous or to St. Luke's Hospice.
Darlene was born May 11, 1930 at Urbana to J. Harold and Erma Grace (Reid) Dake and graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1948. On July 2, 1948 she married Glenn Krug at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Darlene was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Vinton where she had served as Chairwoman of the Memorial Committee. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling and camping. Her greatest pleasure was time spent visiting with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her laughter, her daily three-mile walks and a recipe to share.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn of Vinton; her daughters, Linda (Gary) Schminke of Lake Red Rock, Glennys (Larry) Phelps of Clarksville, TN, and Jolyn (Dave) Petermeier of Highland, IL; her grandchildren, Cindy (Kevin) VanDonselaar, Mitch Schminke, Tabetha (James) Fletcher, Sarah (Joe) Hines and twins, John and Blake Petermeier; her great grandchildren, Jordan and Sean Fletcher and Isiah and Samuel Hines; her brothers, Lyle (Marilyn) Dake and Larry (Anne) Dake; and her sister-in-law, Kathy Dake.
