VINTON:  David Jerolaman Kirk, 72, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton with Rev. Kären Larson officiating.  Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.  Friends may call at Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave. in Vinton from 4 to 8 PM on Monday.
      David was born February 28, 1937 at Cedar Rapids to Albert and Mabel (Jerolaman) Kirk and graduated from Washington High School in 1955.  He attended Pasadena City College, Cal State- LA, and Woodbury University in California.
       On April 12, 1958 he married Nancy Simpson at Boulder City, Nevada.
       He was a Postal Inspector for the United States Postal Service prior to his retirement.  David loved his "Red Convertible" Lawnmower, and enjoyed watching the Turner Classic Movie Channel especially Alfred Hitchcock films. His greatest joy in life came from spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 
     He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sons, Christopher (Mary) Kirk of Garrison and Scott Kirk of Vinton; his daughters, Carol (Brett) Peterson of Mt. Vernon, Kathy (Dave) Stander of Garrison, and Kelly (Paul) Roster of Vinton; his grandchildren, Cory, Daniel, Timothy, Scottie, William, DJ, Doris, Trisha, Sarah, Shelby and Mandy; eleven great-grandchildren; his brother, James Dee Kirk of Vinton and his niece, Deb Kirk of Golden, CO.
     He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Stuart Kirk, on June 5, 1997.
