PALO:  Dessie "Jean" Owens, 77, died Friday, December 11, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness.

     A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM., on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Church Of The King in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Don Glazier officiating.  Friends may register at the church until service time.  In lieu of flower memorials may by sent to the family at 2573 Linn-Benton Rd- Palo, IA 52324.

     "Jean" was born April 3, 1932 at Palo to John M. and Hattie Lucille (Penrose) Owens.  She graduated from Palo High School in 1949 and then graduated from the University of Arizona.  Jean taught in the Palo School District prior to her retirement.

     She is survived by sister, Janis Owens, her brother, John Owens, and sister-in-law, Connie Owens, all of Palo; her nieces and nephews, John E. Owens, Sheri J. Mullinex, Jerome E. Owens, Joseph "Flint" Owens, Zale E. Owens, Lisa L. Etten, and Janson S. Collins; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Joseph E. Owens.
