VINTON: Dorothy M. Nelson McNamee, 87, and formerly of Waterloo and Bella Vista, Arkansas, died Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 8, 2009, at the Presbyterian Church in Vinton with Rev. Ronald Sumption officiating. Interment will be held at Waterloo Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel - 212 E. 6th St., in Vinton, from 4 to 7 on Friday. In lieu of flowers a Memorial Fund has been established for the Presbyterian Church.
Dorothy was born April 8, 1922 in Benton County to George and Charlotte (Baird) Wilson and graduated from Vinton's Lincoln High School in 1940.
On October 26, 1940 she married Leo H. Nelson at Pratt Creek Church near Vinton. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1985. She was united in marriage to George "Allen" McNamee on August 27, 1987 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo and they have made their home in Vinton since July 3, 2002.
Dorothy was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Vinton. She loved flowers, collected bird figurines, and enjoyed needle point.
She is survived by her husband, George "Allen" McNamee of Vinton; her children, Patricia (John P.) Montgomery of Bakersfield, CA, Rev. James O. (Judy) Nelson of Seaside, CA, Lisa (Kirk) Ginn of Des Moines, and Robert G. (Carolyn) Nelson of Delansen, NY; her step-children, James (Marlene) McNamee of Waterloo, and Ruth (Robert) Evans of North English; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and one on the way; four step great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great grandchildren; and her sisters, Darlene (Howard) Heaton of Perry, Dona (Don) Dales of Cedar Rapids, Marion Madorin of Vinton, Georgia Thompson of Barnesville,MN; and Susie (Willie) Hansen of Vinton.
In addition to her parents, her step-mother, Harriette Wilson, and her first husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Daniel Ginn; two sisters, Evelyn Fleming and Mary McCall; and two step sisters, Margie Von Voltenburgh, and Georgene Brown.
