VINTON:  Elsie Mae McGowan, 91, died Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
     Public Graveside Services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday at Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton with Lutheran Home Chaplain, Rev. Larry Schmidt officiating.  The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM, Wednesday at Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave, in Vinton.
     Elsie was born October 23, 1916 at Shellsburg to Lewis and Alma (Berger) Vogt.  On February 13, 1937, she married D.W. "Bill" McGowan at Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage in Vinton.  He preceded her in death on April 25, 2005.
     Elsie loved to cook, bake and quilt.  Her family was the greatest joy in her life.
     She is survived by her children, Janice (Ron) Reyman of Swisher, Wayne (June) McGowan of Vinton, Wanda (Larry) Allensworth of Webster City, Myron (Phyllis) McGowan of Vinton, and Donna (David) Buresh of Cedar Rapids; her niece, Janet Moody of Vinton; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her brothers, Carl "Butch" Vogt and Melvin Vogt and several nieces and nephews.
     In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Merlin Vogt; her sisters, Mary Lint, Leona Horsemen, Dorothy Brownfield and Bessie Uthoff.
