ATKINS   Eleanor Padley, age 92, died Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness.  Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mike Andrew officiating.  Inurnment will be at 1:30 PM on Tuesday at Palo Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday.  Memorials may be directed to Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church or the Atkins Community Club.  Phillips Funeral Home Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
            Eleanor was born April 6, 1916 the daughter of William J. and Grace G. (Gregg) Beatty in Atkins.  She graduated from Atkins High School and went on to attend Coe College in Cedar Rapids graduating with her Bachelors Degree.  Later Eleanor graduated from the University of Iowa with a Masters Degree in Music.  She was united in marriage to Wayne Padley on November 30, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. 
            Eleanor taught History, French and Instrumental Music in many area communities, including:  Miles, Carroll, Tama, Palo, Shellsburg and Atkins.  Eleanor retired from teaching following a more than 30 year career in education.
           She was a member of many Educational and Musical organizations including:  Iowa State Education Association, NEA, Iowa Bandmasters Association, and Women’s Band Directors International.  Eleanor was actively involved in various organizations in Atkins including:  the Atkins Community Club, Atkins Women’s Club, Senior Citizens Group.  Eleanor was also a member of the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church. 
           Music was a true passion of Eleanor’s, she has played trumpet with the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra, directed the Billy K. Murray Band in Atkins for many years, and also played Taps for many local Veteran’s Services in Benton County.  Eleanor’s final performance was at the Atkins Watermelon Days in August of this year.  In addition to her love of music and family she also liked the fact that she was able to remain at home and be very active in politics and organizing community events in Atkins. 
           She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl Lamb of Arlington, WA; Jill Padley and husband Louis Doering of Roseville, MN; her grandchildren, Sean and Carley Lamb of Arlington, WA and Jack Doering of Roseville, MN, many nieces and nephews and her Siamese cat, Solomon.   
         In addition to her parents Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, sisters, Louise Risdal, Gertrude Risch, Grace Beatty and her brother, Jennings Beatty.
