VINTON: Ethel Dengler Petersen, age 87, died Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with Rev. Clarke E. Frederick officiating. Committal Services will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuersday at the Dysart Cemetery in Dysart. Friends may call at Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave. in Vinton, from 4 to 7 PM on Monday. A Memorial Fund has been established. Ethel was born June 11, 1920 near Dysart to Ernest and Lillian (Jansen) Dengler and graduated from the Dysart High School in 1937. On September 5, 1940 she was united in marriage to Donald P. Petersen at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. The couple farmed together between Dysart and Clutier, then northeast of Dysart and later near Mt. Auburn. They moved to the community of Vinton in 1980. Donald preceded his wife in death on March 10, 1998. Ethel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton where she enjoyed membership in Mission Circle and the Fireside Club. She was also a member of the Mt. Auburn American Legion Auxiliary. As a busy farm wife and mother Ethel found time to enjoy fishing trips and dances. She loved Bohemian music. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Andrea Petersen of Vinton, and Craig and Pamela Petersen of Mt. Auburn; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Herb Peshel of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Mildred Dengler of Dysart. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband.
