VAN HORNE: Edward "Red" Cohrt, 84, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City following an extended illness.
A Private Committal Service with Military Rites will be held at the Keystone Cemetery. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 4 to 7 PM on Friday. A memorial fund has been established.
"Red" was born January 26, 1925 at Dysart to John and Caroline (Stroh) Cohrt. During World War II he served his nation in the US Army. He was a member of Thomas F. Bevins American Legion Post #148 of Van Horne and a life member of VFW Post #788 of Cedar Rapids.
Prior to his retirement he farmed and owned a corn shelling business.
He is survived by his children, Terry Cohrt and Joyce Thompson of Ellsworth, WI, Gary Cohrt of Van Horne, Mike Cohrt of Palo, and Janet Cohrt of Beloit, WI; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brother, Fritz Cohrt of Kountze, TX; and his sisters, Ella Potter and Helen Fellmet, both of Keystone, and Velma Childers of Cedar Rapids.
His parents; two brothers; and three sisters, preceded him in death.
