BLAIRSTOWN: Eileen Whitworth, 80, died May 4, 2009 at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, May 8, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church in Blairstown with Rev. George Bishop officiating. Interment will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM, Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, 108 Fremont Street in Blairstown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Blairstown.
Eileen was born July 29, 1928 in Alburnett, Iowa to Wade and Prudence (Davis) Maier and graduated from Alburnett High School in 1946. On February 17, 1955, she married Al Whitworth in Marion. He preceded her in death September 29, 1992.
Eileen was employed for many years as a bookkeeper for auto dealerships and as recently as this past July was still working 40 hours a week. For over thirty years Eileen and her husband farmed near Blairstown where she also served as a 4-H Leader. Eileen was known for keeping a very large and immaculate garden. She enjoyed her bird feeders and watching the many birds in her yard, especially Cardinals. Eileen especially loved her two granddaughters and would do anything for them.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Foley and husband Dennis of Altoona, her son, Dan Whitworth of Blairstown; her two granddaughters, Rebecca Lofgren and husband Kristopher of St. Paul, MN and Jessica Meola and husband Joe of Des Moines; her sister-in-law, Jeanette Maier of Marion, Lucy Lamb of Oskaloosa, Pat Konkel of Colorado Springs, CO, her brother-in-law, Jim Whitworth and wife Ellen of Burlington, WA and her half sister-in-law, Joyce Hardwood of Kansas City, MO.
In addition to her parents and husband, Eileen was preceded in death by her brother Bill Maier.
