ELBERON:  Frances E. Gillespie, age 93, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, August 22, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Elberon with Pastor Norman Bennett officiating.  Interment will be held at National Cemetery near Vining.  Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Keystone from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday.  A memorial fund has been established.
     Frances was born May 2, 1915 at Cambridge to W. Forest and Ruth (Huffman) Kendrick and graduated from Knoxville High School.  She was united in marriage to Byrl R. Gillespie on May 2, 1937 at Unionville, MO.  He preceded her in death in 1981.
     Prior to her marriage Frances was employed from 1932 to 1937 as a Legal Secretary and from 1969 until retiring in 1981, she served as a Postal Clerk and later the Post Mistress at Clutier.  A long time member of First United Methodist Church in Elberon she was the treasurer of her congregation and the organist for sixty years.  Frances was a member of Sincere Rebekah Lodge #59 of Belle Plaine, American Legion Auxiliary Unit #227 of Elberon, and the Order of Eastern Star.  She also served as Treasurer of Boy Scout Troop #300 in Elberon.  In her leisure she enjoyed knitting and crossword puzzles.
     Frances is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sharon Gillespie of Elberon; her granddaughters, Jill (Gary) Mills of Watkins, and Ginger (Jon) Kaestner of Atkins; and her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ashley, Austin, and Hailey Mills, and Heidi, and Abbie Kaestner.
     In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by her son, Larry Gillespie in 2003 and her brother, Robert Kendrick.
