ATKINS:  Glenn A. Haerther, age 73, died Sunday, January 7, 2007 at his residence following a brief illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, January 12, 2007 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating.  Interment will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery near Atkins.  Public Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM. 
     Glenn was born April 4, 1933 near Atkins to Herman and Edna (Krug) Haerther and graduated from the Atkins High School in 1950.
      On August 5, 1962 he married Mary Caroline Long at Cedar Rapids.  Mary preceded her husband in death on July 4, 2006.
       A life long farmer, Glenn also operated a Tiling & Backhoe and Corn Shelling Business.  He was an active member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church.  He served on the Board of Central Lutheran School, and was a board member of Lennox Insurance Co. and Farm Service.  He enjoyed playing cards and attending plays at the Creamery Theater; was a Hawkeye Basketball fan, and a Primetime League member.  Glenn was also a member of the Adolph H Schueller American Legion Post #217 of Atkins.  He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their activities.
     Glenn is survived by two sons, Dennis (Kerrie) Haerther, and Dean (Kelli) Haerther, all of Akins; his grandchildren, Jessica, Brittanie, Zachary, Benjamin, and Joshua Haerther; two brothers, Dale (Jane) Haerther of McAllen, TX, and LeRoy (Sue) Haerther of Boca Raton, FL; and two sisters, Geraldine (Kay) Lenaburg of Cedar Rapids, and Norma (Grant) Voth of Pacific Grove, CA.
     Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife.
     A memorial fund has been established.  Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
