BLAIRSTOWN: Glenn Simon Parr, age 71, died Monday, April 10, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, April 17, 2006 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Blairstown with Father Keith L. Birch as Celebrant. Interment will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown with Graveside Military Rites conducted by M. J. Kirby American Legion Post #170 of Blairstown. The visitation will also be held at the church in Blairstown from 3 to 7 PM on Sunday. A Vigil Service will begin at 7 PM. Glenn was born April 14, 1934 at Blairstown to Simon and Vera (Schmuecker) Parr and graduated from the Blairstown High School in 1952. During World War II, he served his nation in Germany in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. On April 25, 1962 he married Janet Elenz at Manchester, Iowa. Glenn farmed in the Van Horne and Blairstown area and was also employed at a Bus Driver for the Benton Community School District for thirty years. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Blairstown and the V.F.W. Post #788 of Cedar Rapids. In his leisure he loved to travel, fish, play cards and hunt. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife, Janet of Blairstown; his son, Jeff (Marlene) Parr of Van Horne; his daughters, June (Daniel) Schrader of Van Horne, and Joyce (Aaron) Pealer of Solon; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Lisa, and Joel Parr, Patrick, and Nicholas Schrader, and Jesse and Lexi Pealer; and his sister, Lois (Ed) Ternes of Newhall. Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, William, Jack and Harold Parr. A memorial fund has been established.
