VAN HORNE:  Genevieve E. Pieper, age 85, died Monday, October 6, 2008 at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton following an extended illness.
     A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 10, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne with Father Jack McClure as Celebrant.  Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery near Keystone.  Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Keystone from 4:30 to 7:30 PM on Thursday and after 9 AM Friday at the church in Van Horne.  A Vigil Service will be held 7:30 PM at the funeral home on Thursday. 
     Genevieve was born May 7, 1923 at Norway to Albert and Tillie (Kahle) Schulte and graduated from the Norway High School in 1941.  On April 25, 1944 she was united in marriage to George Pieper at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway.  The couple farmed and raised their family near Van Horne  and enjoyed dancing at Walford.  George preceded Genevieve in death on October 18, 2002.
     Genevieve was employed as a clerk at JC Penney in Vinton and then at Simons Clothing in Vinton.   She was a member of Altar & Rosary at her Parish.
     She is survived by her sons, Dan (Judy) Pieper of Fairfax, and Kevin Pieper of Van Horne; her grandchildren, Ashley and Austin Pieper; her sister, Iola Light of Ft. Collins, CO; and her brother, Albert (Dorothy) Schulte of Norway.
     In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard; her sisters, Emily Zenisek, and Marilyn Wodstrchill; and her brother, Jim Schulte.
