CEDAR RAPIDS: Helen L. Buchtela Bascom, 75, of West Des Moines and formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Fountain West Health Care Center in West Des Moines.
     Memorial Services will be held at 10 AM, Monday, June 18, 2007 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Keystone with Rev. Linda Bibb officiating.  Interment will be held at Salem Cemetery, rural Van Horne.  Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.  A memorial fund has been established.
     Helen was born July 26, 1931 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of William and Janette (Mitchell) Buchtela.  On April 21, 1953 she married Albert Bascom, Jr. in Little Rock, Arkansas.  Helen worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for twenty-seven years and thirty days, retiring in 1986.  The couple lived in Hollister, Missouri, for a number of years following retirement.  She lived in Creston, Iowa several years after Albert's death in 1992.  In her leisure Helen enjoyed quilting, crocheting and handwork.
     She is survived by two sons, Lester (Laurie) Bascom of Grimes, Iowa, Bruce (Dianne Bascom of Hudson, Iowa, her daughter, Nancy Davis and friend, Bob Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, four grandchildren, Micah (fiance, Michal McFarland) Sarah, Danielle and Cody, one brother, Donald (Evelyn) Buchtela of Urbana, Iowa, four sisters, Barb (Donald) Parbs of Center Point, Iowa, Betty Leonard Hartl of Alburnett, Iowa, Mary Peck and Pat (Jerry) McGowan of Yucca Valley, California, sisters-in-law, Maxine Wise of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Katherine Bascom of Newhall, Iowa, Dorothy (Jerry) Carpenter of Ramona, California, and brothers-in-law, Vernon (Sandy) Bascom of Vinton, Iowa and Chester(Karen) Bascom of Omaha, Arkansas..
     In addition to her husband, Albert, Jr., she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jim Buchtela and her grandson, Dale Davis.
