CEDAR RAPIDS:  Homer C. Curtis, 84 of 1600 13th St. SW, and formerly of Shellsburg and Mechanicsville, died Thursday, February 21, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Shellsburg Presbyterian Church in Shellsburg with Rev. Leonard Ranson officiating.  Interment will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery near Covington with Graveside Military Rites conducted by the Shellsburg American Legion Post #166. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday.  A Memorial Fund has been established for St. Luke's Hospice and the Shellsburg American Legion.
     Homer was born August 27, 1923 in Pomeroy, OH to Clarence and Della (French) Curtis.   During World War II, he served his nation in the US Marine Corp serving in the Pacific Theater as a Crew Chief on B-25 Bombers. 
     On August 14, 1947 he married Marjorie E. Thimmes at Wyoming, IA and she preceded him in death on September 8, 1993.  He was united in marriage to Ramona Post on October 21, 1994 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. 
     Homer owned and operated a Trucking Business the majority of his life and prior to his retirement he was employed at West Side Transport.
     Survivors include his wife, Ramona; his son, Dennis (Christine) Curtis of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Cathy (Ron) Zimmerman of Marion; his brothers-in-law, Gene and Melvin Thimmes of Mechanicsville, and Buster Post of Siren, WI; his grandchildren, Matthew Curtis, Dennis M. Curtis, Dawn Curtis Ballstaedt, Toni Zimmerman Jobe and Daniel Curtis, currently serving in Iraq, and Jennifer and Jamie Curtis; his step-grandchildren, Maurice and Jason Blue, and twelve great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Clarence "Bud" Curtis.
      In addition to his parents and first wife, Marjorie, he was preceded in death by his  sons, Michael J. in 1968, and Daniel G. in 1984; his brother, Otho and his sisters, Ruth Drahos, Martha Norris and Ruby Frick.
