VINTON:  Henry G. Lyphout, 88, died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following a brief illness.
     A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton with Father David Ambrosy as Celebrant.  Interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Vinton.  Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton from 4 to 7 on Tuesday where a Vigil Service will begin at 7 PM.                           .
     Henry was born December 19, 1919 at Ladora to Camiel and Pharaielda (Deprez) Lyphout.  On October 9, 1946 he married Nadine Florang at Cedar Rapids and the couple farmed and raised their family in Benton County. 
     Henry served on the Soil Conservation Board  for many years and was a 4-H Leader.   In 1982 he retired from farming and then operated a bulldozer as a business until his death.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served as the cemetery sexton for his parish.  Henry enjoyed hunting and he and his wife Nadine were known as beautiful ballroom dancers. 
     He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Nadine of Vinton; his children, Jerry (Annette) Lyphout of Vinton, Lon (Diane) Lyphout of Vinton and La Vera Wood of Cedar Rapids; his six grandchildren, Laura, Curtis, Staci, Jill, Lindsy, and Hayley; his four great-grandchildren, Brooke, Ian, Elizabeth, and Hudson; his sister, Rachel Cornette of Center Point; and his brother-in-law, Vernon Brecht of Watkins.
     Henry was preceded in death by is parents; his granddaughter, Robin Lynn; three brothers, Arshel, Gentil, and infant brother, Russel; and his sister, Selma Brecht.
