VAN HORNE: Henry L. "Heinie" Garbers, 95, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, after suffering several strokes.

     Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne at 10:30 am, on Saturday, August 20, 2011 with Rev. David Lingard officiating.  Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery in Keystone.  Visitation will also be held at the church in Van Horne from 4 to 7 pm on Friday.  A memorial fund has been established for St. Andrew's Lutheran Church and Central Lutheran School.

     Henry L. Garbers was born March 9, 1916 near Van Horne to Edward Lewis and Stella Jane (Andrews) Garbers  On June 7, 1939 he was united in marriage to Geraldine "Gerry" Young at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne.  Gerry preceded him in death on May 29, 2011.

     Prior to his retirement, Henry who was known to family and friends as "Heinie", farmed near Van Horne  He was a member of St Andrew's Lutheran Church, the Farm Bureau and the Keystone Turners.  He enjoyed playing cards and visiting with people. Heinie will be remembered as someone who was there for everyone, including family, friends and neighbors.  His family will remember him as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

     He is survived by his daughters, Joan Garbers of Van Horne, and Jean (Gene) Kubu of Buffalo, MN; his grandchildren, Kristin Gandia, Talion Kubu, Kara Done, Kallin Mead, and Kerry Garbers; and eleven great-grandchildren.

     In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Gregory Kubu; his twin brother, John L. Garbers; and his sister, Irene M. Cranston.
