ATKINS: Ila Jean Krug, age 72, died Thursday, November 30, 2006 at Northbrook Manor in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 4, 2006 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath and Rev. Daniel Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at St Stephen's Cemetery near Atkins. The visitation will also be held at the church from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday. A memorial fund has been established.
Ila Jean was born July 28, 1934 in Howard, SD to Myron and Hazel (Bramow) Taschner and was Baptized and Confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Howard. She graduated from high school in Howard, in 1952 and completed her LPN training at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre, SD.
On June 30, 1954 she married Donald Krug at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins. The couple has farmed in the Atkins area their entire married life.
Ila Jean taught Vacation Bible School at St. Stephen's where she was a member for fifty-two years. She was also a member of the Benton County Historical Society and was very proud of the work she did as a member of the 1988 committee that crafted the county history book. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, and the former "Sweet Adelines" in Vinton. She enjoyed genealogy, loved bowling, music and attending plays at the Old Creamery Theatre. Ila Jean was extremely proud of her five sons.
She is survived by her husband, Don of Atkins, her five sons, Rick and wife, Janene of Dysart, Randy and wife, Sheila of Cedar Rapids, John J. and wife, Cindy of Omaha, Jeff and wife, Linda of Mt. Pleasant, and Jim and wife, Gina of Newhall; ten grandchildren, Lexa, Trevor, Weston, Ryan and wife, Angie, Brandon, Lindsey, Logan, Rachel, Tyler and Anna Krug; and her brother, Donald Taschner and wife, Barbara of Minneapolis, MN.
Her parents and granddaughter, Lauren Krug preceded her in death.
Phillip Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
