CEDAR RAPIDS: Irene K. Krug Rinderknecht, 99, died Thursday, November 26, 2009 at Hallmar of Mercy Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, November 30, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Marion with Rev. Greg Williamson officiating. Interment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Public Visitation will also be held at the church from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday and one hour prior to service on Monday. A memorial fund has been established. Irene was born September 3, 1910 in Atkins, the daughter of August and Elizabeth (Happel) Krug. She was united in marriage to Alfred Rinderknecht on December 12, 1934 in Atkins. The couple farmed north of Marion until retirement in 1971. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Ann (Jim) Madan of White Plains, NY, and Carol Rae (Scott) Bruntjen of Eldora, CO; and three sons, Richard (Sandra) Rinderknecht of West Des Moines, David Rinderknecht of Cedar Rapids, and Don (Priscilla) Rinderknecht of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Deborah, Dana, Jennifer, Jim, KaeDee, and Jad; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Juliana, and James; two step-grandchildren, Michael and Andrew; one brother, Melvin Krug of Atkins; three sisters-in-law, Libbie Krug, Eda Schanbacher, and Elsie Polk; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in 1986, her parents, August and Elizabeth Krug; three sisters, Edna Haerther, Elma Schanbacher, and Louise Rinderknecht; and three brothers, Harvey, Irvin, and Delbert Krug. Irene enjoyed her family, being a homemaker, her church where she was the longest living charter member, and she enjoyed playing cards. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Mercy and the nursing home for their care.
