KEYSTONE:  Ivadel Floreine (Hagen) Pickering, 92, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids following an extended  illness.
     Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM., Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne with Rev. David Lingard officiating.  Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery in Newhall.   Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone.  Memorials may be left for St. Andrew Lutheran Church. 
      Ivadel was born on November 12, 1916 on the Fred Hagen farm Southeast of Van Horne on the old Lincoln Highway, the daughter of Freddie and Elizabeth (Boomgarden) Hagen.  She graduated from Van Horne High School with the class of 1936.  On January 1, 1938, she married Harold William Pickering at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.  Harold died on June 4, 1999.  The couple farmed in the Keystone-Van Horne area.  As a farm wife, Ivadel was known for her great cooking; especially her cakes and pies.  After retiring in 1977 the couple began traveling and spent 18 winters in the Rio Grand Valley, McAllen, Texas.
      Ivadel was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne.  Her hobby was growing and working with flowers.  She had belonged to the local Floralia flower arrangers club and made many award winning floral arrangements as well as beautiful arrangements for her family's weddings, birthdays and holidays.
     Survivors include a daughter Reta Westercamp and husband Robert of Cedar Rapids, a son Darris and friend Lisa Suchomel of Keystone; four grandchildren, Kirk Abernathy and wife Shelly of Fayette, Bruce Abernathy of Columbus, OH, Lisa Loebker and husband Dave of Cincinnati, OH, Devin Pickering and wife Janette of Van Horne; four great grandchildren, K.J. and Danielle Abernathy, Colter Pickering and Lenora Loebker and many nieces and nephews.
     In addition to her parents and husband Harold, Ivadel was preceded in death by two sisters, Isabelle Woods and June Meyocks; two nephews, Michael Meyocks and Kent Woods and her niece Mary Conoley.
     Ivadel was a constant source of love and care for her family.  The memory of her will linger on for Reta, Darris and their families.
