VINTON: J.R. Douglas, age 88, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Vinton, died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
     Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 East Sixth Street) Vinton with Rev. M.D. Howe of the Cornerstone Baptist Church officiating.  Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton with graveside military rites be conducted by the Walter J. Meyocks American Legion Post #264 of Urbana.  Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Monday, March 5, 2007 also at the funeral home.  A memorial fund has been established.    
     J.R. was born April 24, 1918 at Huntsville, MO to James and Susie (Roddy) Douglass. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Hilton at Yakima, Washington.  J.R. honorably served his country during World War II in the United States Army's 191st Artillery.  He farmed in the Vinton area and was a member of the Walter J. Meyocks American Legion Post #264 of Urbana.
     Survivors include his son, Ned Douglas of Vinton; daughters, Barbara (Leroy) Dawson of New Palestine, Indiana; Susie (Douglas) Sovers of Cedar Rapids and Judy (Dan) Herring of Vinton, his grandchildren, Tim Stainbrook, Travis Prior, Austin Jacob Douglas and his mother, Pattie Lacy, a sister, Mary Jane Nichols and many nieces and nephews of Columbia, MO. 
     He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjorie, daughter Mary Ellen Douglas and brother Joe Douglas.
