VINTON: Jessie Edwina Thompson Briggs Geater, age 87, died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following brief illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, April 10, 2006 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6 th Street, Vinton, Iowa with Rev. Rose Blank officiating. Interment will be held at the Alpha Cemetery in Alpha, Iowa at 2 PM on Monday. Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Vinton from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday. A Memorial Fund has been established. Jessie was born April 8, 1918 at Alpha to Arthur and Ida (Waterworth) Stone. She resided in Keystone and Alpha before moving to Vinton in 1958. Jessie owned and managed several rental properties. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and several card clubs. In her leisure she enjoyed gardening and spending time her grandchildren and great and great great grandchildren. She is survive by her children, Jim (Joan) Thompson of Cedar Falls and Judy (Robert) Hodges of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Denise (Marc) Chesmore of Lisbon, Robert T. (Sandra) Hodges of Cedar Rapids, Kenneth (Ute) Hodges of Germany, Rochelle Benesh of Colorado, Michell (David) Bartlett of Marion, and Katie, Rachel, and Sara Thompson of Cedar Falls; fourteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; her step-daughters, Bernice Ahl of Vinton, and Bernadine (Don) Greenfield of Wisconsin; her sister, Eva Ott of Alpha; and her friend, Charles Briggs of Wisconsin. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, Richard Thompson and Earl Geater and one great grandson, Mason Chesmore.
