KEYSTONE - John "Jr." Jurgens, age 80, died Wednesday, September 5, 20007 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown following an extended illness.
Public Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 8, 2007 at the Keystone Cemetery in Keystone with Tim Casey officiating and Military Rites conducted by the Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107 of Keystone.. Visitation will be held at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Keystone from 4 to 7 PM on Friday. A memorial fund has been established. John "Jr." was born July 10, 1927 at Van Horne to John Sr. and Nanie (Klapholz) Jurgens and graduated from the Keystone High School. During the Korean Conflict he served his nation in the US Army and was a member of the Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107 of Keystone. On October 11, 1953 he married Helen Junge at Keystone. Prior to his retirement he was a butcher at Allers Meat Market in Keystone. Prior to his retirement he was a butcher at Allers Meat Market in Keystone. "Jr." was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Keystone Turners. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Helen Jurgens of Keystone; his son Jerry (Jean) Jurgens of Ankeny; his daughters, Jetra (Rick) Dillinger of Alleman, and Jamie (Reg) Klocke of Walford; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; his sister, Lorna (Kenneth) Allers and his brother, Dean (Shirley) Jurgens all of Keystone. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Kenneth and Art Jurgens and his sister, Dorathy Jurgens Heitman.
