BLAIRSTOWN - Leo W. Buelow, age 90, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, August 17, 2007 at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown with Rev. David Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery in Newhall with Graveside Military Rites conducted by M.J. Kirby American Legion Post #170 of Blairstown. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday. A Memorial Fund has been established. Leo was born February 12, 1917 at Luzerne to Louis and Augusta (Willenbrook) Buelow. A decorated combat veteran, during World War II Leo served his nation in the US Army. He was a member of of the M. J. Kirby American Legion Post #170 in Blairstown. On August 23, 1942, Leo was united in marriage to Anna Happel at Vinton. A life long farmer, after retiring from farming. Leo served as a bus driver for the Benton Community School District for several years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served as a Trustee and Elder and enjoyed membership in the Fellowship Club and Dart Ball. He is survived by his wife, Anna of Blairstown; his son, Terry (Terri) Buelow of Newhall; his daughters, Betty Buelow King of Cedar Rapids, and Judy (Ron) Comried of Anamosa; his grandchildren, Greg Buelow, Julie Kasper, Whitney Comried and Austin Comried; three great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Albert (Esther) Buelow of Cedar Rapids, and Raymond (Mae) Buelow of Palo; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several siblings.
