SHELLSBURG:  Louis "Louie" Cottrell, 73, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
     Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, November 24, 2008 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton with Pastor Larry Rodgers officiating.  Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday.  A Memorial Fund has been established.
     Louis was born August 9, 1935 at Cainsville, MO to Edward Carl and Dolly Hazel (Hoadley) Cottrell and graduated from the Princeton High School in Princeton, MO in 1953.
     On November 26, 1954 he married Mary Ellen Wendt at Spickard, MO.  She preceded him in death on January 10, 1996.
     Louis was a farm hand for Owens Farms for twenty-one years and later was employed by New method Equipment for over twenty years until retiring in 1998.  He was an accomplished mechanic and loved custom cars.  He loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed visiting with friends at Roy's on Sunday mornings.
     He is survived by his sons, Mike Cottrell and friend, Irma Weatherwax of Vinton, and Richard (Lisa) Cottrell of Shellsburg; his daughter, Becky (Mike) Robinson of Shellsburg; grandsons, Tony Cottrell and Tommy Robinson, both of Shellsburg; great-grandsons, Payton and Kaiden Robinson of Shellsburg; his sister, Margaret Andrews of Cedar Rapids and his best friend, Trixie.
     In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Patrick Robinson on September 17, 2001 and his sister, Ruth Ann Knott.
