NEOLA: Loren R. Halva, 66, formerly of Spirit Lake, died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs following a sudden illness.
Public Graveside Services will be held at 11 AM., Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, IA. Visitation will be held at Phillips Funeral Home, 212 E. 6th St., in Vinton from 4 to 8 PM on Monday. In leau of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Loren was born March 12, 1942 at Urbana to Rudolph and Dortha (Garlick) Halva and graduated from Washington High School in Vinton in 1960. He also attended Iowa State University. He served his nation in the US Army and was stationed in Korea from 1966 to 1968. He was a member of the American Legion.
Loren managed a Grain Elevator in Fernald, IA, worked as an Agent for American Family Insurance in Nevada, IA. He later moved to Lehigh to manage Lehigh Clay Products. Loren also resided in Strafford and Spirit Lake where he was involved in home construction and resort management. In 2008 he moved to Neola. Loren was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and hiking along the river bottom. He liked entertaining family and friends and was a “master” at the BBQ Grill.
He is survived by his children, Lance (Kristi) Halva of Stockton, CA, Aaron Halva of New York, NY, and Jennifer (Wayne) Gillaspie of Sacramento, CA; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jay, and Madelyn Halva; his friend and companion, Marlene Huebner of Neola; and his brothers, Carroll (Mary) Halva of Amana, and Gary (Karen) Halva of West Union.
Loren’s parents preceded him in death.
