CEDAR RAPIDS - Lyle Henry Hoefer, 77, a resident of Crestview Acres, formerly of 309 Jacolyn Dr. N.W.,  died Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital following an extended illness.
     A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Thursday, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Rev. Nils Hernandez as Celebrant.  Interment will be held at Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.  Friends may call at the church from 9 AM until service time.  Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
     Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Linda Hoefer of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Lisa Kalell and husband, Alan of Kansas City, MO and grandchildren, Jordan and Lindsey; his siblings, Jerry (Verna Mae) Hoefer, Manchester, Darlene (Charles) Fischer , Manchester, Charles Hoefer, Cedar Rapids, Art (Karen) Hoefer, Swisher; his brother-in-law, Ray (Susie) Vecerka, Cedar Rapids and many nieces and nephews.
     His parents, Arthur and Alma Hoefer, preceded him in death.
     Born on a farm in New Vienna, Lyle fondly reminisced about doing chores and taking a horse and buggy to school.  He met Linda at Armar Ballroom in 1963 where they both enjoyed dancing.  They married on June 19, 1965. He had a keen sense of humor and was able to talk to anyone.  He loved all animals, had pride in being a hard worker, loved the St. Louis Cardinals, enjoyed collecting baseball cards and watching NASCAR and his favorite driver #24, Jeff Gordon.  He also looked forward to going to the Iowa State Fair every year.  He worked for the City of Cedar Rapids for 25 years and retired in 1992.
     In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association of East Central Iowa or the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
     We will miss the twinkle in his eye and his big smile.
