SHELLSBURG:  Louis Houtzager, age 88, died Friday morning, June 16, 2006, at his daughter's residence following an extended illness.
     Private Graveside Services will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg.  The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M., Sunday, June 18, 2006 at Phillips Family Center - 605 2nd Ave.- in Vinton.  In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
     Louis was born Aug 21, 1917 at Delft, Holland to Lambertis Martienes and Mien (VanYperen) Houtzager. On January 24, 1941 he married Levina Neeltje de-Hamer at Delft, Holland. 
     Louis was a tool and die maker and was employed at Ledford Engineering in Cedar Rapids until he retired in 1980.  He loved music and he and his wife performed together at area nursing homes and at ballrooms in Donna, Texas where they wintered for thirteen years.  Louis played the drums and often sang while Levina played the piano.
He was a proud and loving husband, father and grandfather and he loved the sport of Soccer.
     He is survived by his wife, Levina of Shellsburg; his daughters, Wilma (Tom) Busenbark of Shellsburg, Nellie (Tom) Saunders of Cedar Rapids, and Louise (Bill) Bruce of Shellsburg; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one brother, Martin Houtzager of Holland.
     Preceding him in death were his parents, his grand-son, Craig; his son-in-law, Don Fiebelkorn, and his granddaughter, Carla Beatty.
