KEYSTONE - Lloyd "Dusty" Rhoads, 79, died Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Vinton Lutheran Home where he had been a resident for almost two years.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 11 AM at the Garrison United Methodist Church in Garrison with Pastor Jan Ziskovsky officiating. Interment and Graveside Military Rites conducted by Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107 of Keystone will be held at 1:30 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday. A Memorial Fund has been established. Dusty was born November 23, 1927 on the family farm near Vinton where he lived through eighth grade. He was the son of Willis and Lula (Davidson) Rhoads. He received his education in country school and graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1945. He served his country in the Navy for two years on a minesweeper at the end of World War II. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Appleton on November 12, 1945 in San Diego, CA. Dusty owned and operated Keystone Implement Company for over 40 years. He was a well-loved and respected member of his community by serving in various civic capacities. He was a member of the Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107 of Keystone, the 40 & 8, the Keystone Turners, the Ascalon Masonic Lodge No. 393, and a volunteer fireman with the Keystone Fire Department. Dusty was an active member of the Garrison United Methodist Church. Dusty had many interests including bowling, golfing, and was an avid reader. He took pride in his garden and shared the fruits of his labors. He truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Alan, Robert and Junior. Dusty is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Keystone; his daughter, Diana (Dick) Peck of Naperville, IL; his son, Michael Rhoads of Tunkhannock, PA; his daughter, Deborah (Joel) Vogeler of Marshalltown; ten grandchildren, Chad, John and Doug Peck, Melissa, Angela, Lori and Alan Rhoads, and Justin, Adam and Josh Vogeler; and two great-grandchildren, Collin and Sophie Peck.
