KEYSTONE: Larry L. Meyer, 67, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at his home with his family, following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 11, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone with Rev. Dr. James Eggert officiating. Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery with Graveside Military Rites conducted by Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107 of Keystone. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 2 to 6 PM on Friday. A memorial fund has been established for St. John's Video Project.
Larry was born May 17, 1941 at Cedar Rapids, to Alvin and Alice (Meyer) Meyer and graduated from the Keystone High School in 1959. In 1960 he earned a Commerce/Accounting Degree from the Cedar Rapids Business College.
During Viet Nam, Larry served his nation in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged on January 5th, 1970. He was a member of Merkel- Bockholt American Legion Post #107 of Keystone.
With his father, Alvin and brother, Jim he owned and operated Meyer Feed Service & Grain Elevator in Keystone for thirty-eight years. His faith was very important to him. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Keystone, where he was involved in many church activities. Other activities he was involved in were, lifetime member of the Keystone Turners, a member of Tara Hills Country Club, served on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Grain & Feed Association, and the United Suppliers Board, the Benton County Foundation Board, Benton County Development Group, Served 21 years on the Keystone City Council, the Keystone Business Men's Club and served on the Keystone Care Center Board for thirteen years. In 1984 the Optimist Club honored him for his Community Service. Larry was an avid bowler, golfer and Hawkeye fan.
On May 27, 1994 he married Sue Paul at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone. In addition to his wife, Sue of Keystone, he is survived by his children, Shannon (Cindy) Rieck of Ladora, and Julie Rieck of St. Petersburg, FL; his brother, Jim Meyer of Keystone, Niece Amy (TJ) Ledvina of Elberon, his nephews, Darron and Todd Meyer of Keystone; his great nieces and nephews, Beau, Jake, Aubrey, Karly, Casey, and Clayton. He loved his family and reached out to them making a difference in their lives as a great role model. One we will never forget.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two special aunts, Etta and Elsie, who helped raise Larry and his brother, Jim, following their mother's death.
