CLUTIER:  Lloyd E. Chalupsky, 90, of rural Clutier, died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids of cancer
     Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone with St. Luke's Hospice Chaplain, Jeremy Hudson officiating.  Interment will be held at National Cemetery near Vining.  Friends may register at the funeral home from 1 PM until service time on Thursday.    

     Lloyd was born July 22, 1919 near Cedar Rapids, a son of Edward and Blanche (Konicek) Chalupsky.  He attended country school near Elberon and graduated from the Clutier High School in 1937.  After graduation, he worked at Cherry Burell in Cedar Rapids.  In 1940 he went to California and worked at Lockheed Aircraft Experimental Division for three years.  During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines in the South Pacific on ammunition ships.  After his discharge from the service, he returned home to help his parents on the family farm.
     On June 24, 1952, he married Eleanor Civis at the Belle Plaine Methodist Church.  They spent 57 years on the farm, raising cattle and Arabian horses, which were sold and shown throughout the mid-west.
     He belonged to the Iowa Arabian_Horse Association, the NFO where he was County Chairman for three years.  He was very good at fixing things, doing carpentry, electrical and making things he needed.  He enjoyed dancing, travel, his casino buddies, and spending time with family.
     Lloyd is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Clutier; his daughter, Diane (Jim) Goforth of Atkins; his granddaughter, Olivia Vavroch of Boston, MA; his grandson, Ryan Vavroch of Keystone, and his fiancé, Allison Cairns; his step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Gabe) Bark of Marion, Janelle (Todd) Lund of Cedar Rapids, and Jordan Goforth of Iowa City; his brother, Elmer (Marne) Chalupsky of Elberon and his niece, Nancy Hartgrave of Elberon.
      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brotherAlvin and sister-in-law, Helen.
     The family wants to give special thanks to St. Luke's Hospice and the nurses at 4 Center for the great care given to Lloyd.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice.
