DONNELLSON: Lloyd V. Shogren, 83, formerly of Vinton, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Donnellson Care Center after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Presbyterian Church in Vinton with Rev. Ronald Sumption officiating. Private Committal Services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 10 to 11 AM, at the church prior to the service. Lloyd was born March 17, 1926 in Bishop Hill, IL, the son of Arvid and Esther (Carlson) Shogren. He attended Urbana schools. Lloyd married Mildred Orr on December 23, 1952 in Columbus City, IA. Mildred passed away on March 30, 2003. Lloyd farmed in the Vinton and Blairstown areas for over forty years, retiring to Vinton in 1997. He was a member of the Vinton and the Blairstown Presbyterian churches. Lloyd was a devoted husband and father who went out of his way to help others, had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to tinker, could fix anything, and had a fascination for old tractors and cars. Lloyd is survived by a son, David (Ann) of St. Helena, CA, three daughters, Kathy (Neil) Fell of Garner, Diane (Dan) Dvorak of Iowa City, and Connie (Jim) Beatty of Mt. Pleasant; and seven grandchildren, Matthew Fell of Des Moines, Janeen Fell of Johnston, Nathan Dvorak of Phoenix, AZ, Daniel Shogren of New York, NY, Tara Meade of Oskaloosa, Tyler Meade of Iowa City, and Samuel Beatty of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his parents and wife, Mildred, he was preceded in death by his step-sister, Dorothy Lindeloff, and brothers, Carl, Howard and Jim.
