VINTON: Marian C. Feller, 97, formerly of Vinton, passed away May 28, 2008 at Friendship Village in Bloomington, MN.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 2, 2008 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Kären Larson officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at Phillips Family Center- 605 2nd Ave. in Vinton from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday Marian was born July 13, 1910, to Samuel A. and Jennie (Truman) Hicks of rural Dows, and graduated from the Hampton High School in 1928. She attended Iowa State College in Ames, and taught five years in the rural schools in Franklin County Iowa and the Chapin Independent Consolidated School. In 1936 she married Kenneth H. Feller who preceded her in death in 1972. In 1942 Marian and Kenneth Feller moved to Vinton where they owned and operated Feller's variety store. Marian was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Vinton and was active in the Woman's Society of Christian Service and served as President. For many years Marian taught pre-school children in the Sunday School Department and later became an instructor for the Christian Laboratory Schools of the United Methodist Church. She found satisfaction inspiring new teachers throughout the church conference. She was a 50-year member of the PEO Sisterhood and was a past President of Chapter HG in Vinton. She treasured her association with the Vinton Woman's Club, Mentor Club, her bridge club and a birthday group. She always had a great desire to travel and initiated many family vacations throughout the United States. In later years Marian traveled extensively at home and abroad with Vinton friends. Since 1989 she resided at Friendship Village in Bloomington, MN near the home of her daughter Katherine and family. During her years in Bloomington she enjoyed many activities at Friendship Village and at Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Marian is survived by one brother and his wife, Richard and Dolores Hicks of Hampton; her children and their spouses, Barbara and Duane Finch of Loveland, OH, Paul and Karen Feller of Milford, OH, and Katherine and George Roberts of Bloomington, MN; eight grandchildren, Laurie Finch (Mrs. Jonas Borenstein) of Ann Arbor, MI, Julie Finch of Loveland, OH, Stephanie Whitehead (Mrs. Jeffrey) of Iowa City, Andy (Kim) Feller of Troy, IL, Eric (Jean) Feller of Williamsburg, Matthew Feller of Brooklyn Park, MN, Mark Roberts of New Brunswick, NJ, and Alison Roberts of Bloomington, MN; thirteen great grandchildren; and many nieces ad nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Kenneth, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Llewellyn and Frances Hicks.
