ATKINS: Mary Caroline Long Haerther, age 67, died Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a brief Illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 8, 2006 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. David Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Atkins. The visitation will also be held at the church from 4 to 8 PM on Friday. A memorial fund has been established.
Mary was born October 14, 1938 at Cedar Rapids to Emerson and Georgia (Louvar) Long and graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids in1956. In 1960 she earned her Bachelor Of Arts Degree from the University Of Iowa and later her Masters Degree from Coe College. Mary taught in several area schools from 1960 to 2002.
On August 5, 1962 she married Glenn Haerther at Cedar Rapids.
Mary was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Order Of Eastern Star., Daughters of the American Revolution, Red Hat Society, the Hoover Bridge Group, and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed Tole Painting and Hawkeye Basketball, loved her Longaberger Baskets, and attending her grandchildren's activities.
In addition to her husband, Glenn, she is survived by her sons, Dennis (Kerrie) Haerther, and Dean (Kelli) Haerther, all of Atkins; her grandchildren, Jessica, Brittanie, Zachary, Benjamin, and Joshua Haerther; and her sister, Marjorie Helene (Richard) Petersen of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Marlene Jane Long.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
