VINTON: Myron "Mike' Rogers, 89, died Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Vinton Lutheran Home Chapel with Chaplain Larry Schmidt officiating. Friends may register at the Lutheran Home from 12:30 until service time on Tuesday. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
"Mike" was born August 17, 1918 at Cedar Falls to Frank and Flora E. (Sprague) Rogers and graduated from the Janesville High School. He attended Gates College and entered the Army Air Corps where he served his nation from 1942 to 1946. He owned Rogers Body Shop in LaPorte City prior to retirement in 1986. Mike also enjoyed farming a small acreage near Mount Auburn where he raised goats. His first wife, Louise Piper preceded him in death, he then married Joyce Rowe on October 13, 1953 and they later divorced. On September 20, 1974 he married Mary Hedrick at Kirksville, MO. Myron is survived by his wife, Mary of Vinton; his children, Randy (Kathy) Rogers of Cedar Falls, Mark (Kristine) Rogers of Prairie Du Chien, WI, Steven (Pamela) Rogers of Sumner, Mary Ellen (Dr. Al) Kruger of Oelwein, Sharon (Bruce) Kuhlmann of Sumner, Linda (Lowell) Biermann of Tripoli; step-children, Dawn (Nathan) Talabec of Seville, OH, Samuel S. Hedrick of Waterloo, and Ricky Saunders of Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Sandra Rogers of Dexter; thirty-three grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie and Ramona Rogers, both of Janesville; and sisters-in-law, Marlene Rogers of Greene and Mae Rogers of New Hampton. He was preceded by his first wife, Louise: sons, Douglas and Dennis Rogers; granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Rogers; sisters, Viola, Verna, and Mabel; and brothers, Kenneth, Walter, Melvin and Frank, Jr.
